Day of Prayer for Courtney King-Dye announced, March 14.

Following her fall with a horse on March 3, Courtney King-Dye remains in a coma. While we all have included her in our prayers since that accident, and will continue to do so in the days and weeks ahead, let's join together for a day of prayer for our friend Courtney, this Sunday March 14. We want to strengthen all of the prayers going out for her, by coming together in a unified voice. If you can, please consider contributing to this collective prayer by doing one or more of the following on Sunday, March 14: light a long-lasting candle; reflect during several minutes of silence; find a quiet moment with a beloved horse and together send healing energy; fast for the day; find your own unique way to send your prayer. One or more of these actions, done with a collective spirit will surely have some positive effect for our friend; what you can contribute to this collective prayer will make a difference. Thank you, and please spread the word to all individuals and groups you know who might like to know of this. Please also read on Dressage Daily about the fundraiser for Courtney in Wellington, Wednesday March 10.

Training with Debbie McDonald, important clinic update.

While our Training With Debbie McDonald clinic was scheduled for April 24th and 25th, unfortunately the need has arisen to reschedule the dates. Debbie’s assistant Adrienne Lyle, has had tremendous recent successes at the West Coast CDIs. Because of this, she will go to Europe to gain additional experience with the hopes of qualifying for the WEG selections. Debbie will have to accompany Adrienne to Europe this April and May. We share Debbie's excitement for Adrienne and are happy to support them in all ways; we hope to see Adrienne make it to the World Equestrian Games this October! We are also grateful that Debbie has worked with us to reschedule the clinic. The dates are now confirmed for the weekend of December 4th and 5th.

We are looking forward to hosting to a warm and exciting holiday season clinic at the beautiful new facility at Riveredge, and hope this does not cause undue inconvenience for those of you who have already signed up to join us. If these dates will not work for you, we understand and will be glad to refund your early registration payment. (We need to hear from you before April 1, 2010, or we will assume you will keep your seat in December.) If you're unsure if you will be able to make the clinic in December but would like to hold on to your spot, consider leaving your reservation intact; you can always transfer or give your seat/ticket to a friend, making it a great holiday gift! Remember, if you choose to have your payment refunded, please let us know no later than April 1, 2010.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, but we are very pleased to offer this fantastic educational event at the later date. We look forward to hearing from you! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Hexagon's Louisville to Return to The Netherlands.

Offield Farms’ KWPN stallion Hexagon’s Louisville will be returning to his birthplace before the end of the year. Louisville will stand at stud in the Netherlands at Stal Hexagon and have the opportunity to directly influence the mare base of that region and other parts of Europe. Hassler Dressage has been proud to manage Hexagon’s Louisville over the past few years and we will dearly miss his charismatic presence and enormously kind nature in our stable every day. We appreciate how much it will mean to Louisville’s breeder Leunus van Lieren to have Louisville retire at ‘home’ and to have the opportunity to produce more top offspring like Hexagon’s Wonderella and Hexagon’s Welnetta, both top mares which have shone for their sire Louisville in international sport. Hassler Dressage will continue to manage mares to Hexagon’s Louisville through frozen semen.

Hassler Dressage Team Results from the Region One Championships

Our show group shared a memorable long weekend at the Virginia Horse Park in Lexington, VA. Our FEI young rider Jillian Kemenosh fulfilled a life-long dream of winning a Regional Championship! She and her special boy Nelzon won the FEI Young Rider Championships with a 66.579% We shared a memorable moment with tears in our eyes as Jill and her mother Barb embraced, celebrating that Jill had finally won her “Jacket,” a feat she had dreamt of since she was 9-years old! Our longtime friend and client Susie Granville brought her new FEI hotrod “Rodnick” along to school and get to know away from home…what a fantastic horse he is! He was calm, cool, reliable, and turned heads wherever he went! Susie’s sister Emily was a faithful groom and help to us all…a delight to have along for the weekend and now a committed part of our Hassler Dressage show team. Our daughter Sara put in excellent rides all weekend and brought home blue ribbons for her efforts! She and Legato won Open divisions of both Training Level tests 3 and 4, with scores of 68+ and 70+%. Sara also ventured down centerline for the first time at First Level and earned a respectable 63.3%. Jill, Susie, and Sara celebrated their weekend successes with a fun Sunday morning ride through the hills of the cross-country course, taking in the fall colors and the joy of their partnerships with Nelzon, Rodnick, and Legato.

Davidoff Hit and I had our moments at this competition but ended our season with further disappointment. Davi won our Championship ‘warm-up’ class with a 71.+%, a class of 20 entries. In our 3rd Level GAIG finals class, Davi entered the arena in lovely self-carriage and that spark of brilliance that felt spot-on. We started off the test with the best trot tour of our season. He was light, forward, and showing more harmony and balance than ever before. In our walk tour, he was startled by the gate keeper leaving her chair…and then shied at the glare of the coliseum lights on her chair! We “got through” our canter tour but he remained fearful of that corner and did not perform with the quality that fairs well in a Championship class. While the discouragement of our last two Championship weekends could linger, we are venturing forward, focusing on the true talents which Davi possesses. His piaffe is a highlight and we will focus our winter training on developing Davi appropriately, believing in him as a Grand Prix horse and using his strengths to progress his development overall.

Dressage at Devon 2009.

This year at Dressage at Devon, friends new and old joined us under the Hassler Dressage "roof" from all over the country, Canada, and Sweden! As he has for many years, hans-rivoli2Hans Engberg (photo right) joined us from Sweden to handle the youngsters in the ring. His fiancée, Sara, helped keep things moving along back in the stables and was handy with the whip while the guys were handling pairs. It's always nice to have Hans and Sara a part of our team. We also enjoyed the help and camaraderie of the Martin family while at Devon. Sara Martin offered her lovely rustybraiding services for us once again. Long-time friends and breeders, Don and Dee Kapper arrived from Ohio with a whole new "team" of their own this year (below left). Janeen Langowski, Regina Sacha, and Susan Desimpel (below center), all from OH, were a wonderful addition to our fold! From Canada came Sandy and Karen Day with their lovely group of Riverman offspring and a beautiful imported mare, Once in a Lifetime. We were thrilled to have our friends Daryl Glazer, Melissa Gallagher (below right), and Sharon Heaps, all hailing from PA, with us at Devon and welcomed JJ Tate's clients, Jackie Nixon-Fulton (TX) and Deb Dalseg (ON). Once again, it was a pleasure to have Marty and Wendy Costello of Kent Island Sporthorses with us at Devon, this time with their first Rosall foal, Royall KIS (photo above left)! It was a truly pleasant surprise to meet a Rousseau yearling all the way from Washington State with his owner, Kimberly Duffy!

Highlights of this year's event include our own, sweet fidelity"Fidelity HD" (Rousseau - Cordoba - Weltmeyer) earning 2nd place in the Two Year Old Fillies class. Fidelity was a gift to Scott and Susanne from long-time friends Ingo and Susan Pape of Germany. She is out of the full sister to Hilltop Farm's Cha-Cha, a very special mare that Scott selected for their program years ago. This was Fidelity's first time out and we were so proud! She and Kim Duffy's "Dansig Amico" earned Harmony's Rousseau 6th place in a very competitive Get of Sire class. Dansig Amico (Rousseau - Don Primaire) was 5th in the Yearling Colt/Geldings class.

The Days of Ontario had a great year! Their stallion "Rivoli II" (Riverman - Carthago) won the Four and Older Stallions (In-Hand Only) class with 74.4%, earning a place in the stallion championship later that day (photos below)! Their mare, "Understated," full sibling to Rivoli I and II, was 2nd in the Five Year Old Mare Materiale with Hans riding. The Days Breeder's Group was 6th overall.

daygroupriv-bluescott-rivolli2

Top placings were held by Jackie Nixon-Fulton's mare "Rosentanz" (Rosenthal - Wolkentanz I) (below left), who was the Champion Four and Older Yeld Mare with 75.75% and 3rd in a large GOV class and by Daryl Glazer's two year old "Cosmopolitan ERS" (Idocus - Cocktail) (below right) was 2nd in the KWPN-NA Two and Under class out of over 20 entries!

rosentanzcosmo

In the Performance division of Dressage At Devon, many of the trainers that Scott supports enjoyed success as well! A shining star was Ulla Peterson who won both the 4- and 5-year old NABFC Finals aboard Nancy Holowesko’s fine homebred Oldenburgs Sabati and Steinway. Karen Monks-Reilly took First Place in the USEF Four Year Olds Test and top soctt and susanne hasslerhonors also went to JJ Tate who won both 4th Level classes aboard Suzanne Bollman's “Rower Be.” Meagan Davis took 3rd in the FEI Young Rider Team, Individual, and Freestyle tests while fellow Young Rider, Jillian Kemenosh, earned 4th in the Freestyle and 6th in the Individual Tests.

A complete list of results for those under the Hassler Dressage roof at Devon and of those whom Scott coached at the show grounds can be seen here: Devon 09 Results (pdf). We truly appreciated the opportunity to offer our support at Devon once again and look forward to seeing you next year!

2009 Competition Highlights.

The 2009 competition season started off with the VADA/NOVA Spring Competition April 11-12, 2009, where several of Scott’s students put in excellent performances. The first of the FEI/USEF Young Horse Qualifiers up north and also a qualifier for the Junior/Young Riders in the area, it was an important weekend. Derby and Preakness weekends coincided with PVDA Spring and VADA/NOVA Summer Dressage Show weekends at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA. Along with the great barn aisle Derby and Preakness parties, we celebrated the continued successes of our students and Harmony's Davidoff Hit making his winning debut at Third Level. The Fair Hill Dressage Show gave many of Susanne's students an opportunity to get their feet wet for the season and some terrific results were achieved by all, including High Score Awards! Festival of Champions put our young professionals and Jr/Young Riders in the spotlight for Brentina Cup and Young Rider National Championships with terrific results for several of Scott's committed students. PVDA's Ride for Life brought memorable moments for Team Hassler, with Sara Hassler making her debut down centerline along with our other team members making their next steps in competition. Harmony's Davidoff Hit brought home the High Score award of the competition and finished as Third Level Champion for the weekend. Each link will highlight our student’s successes so read on to learn more! Congratulations to all on successes thus far in 2009!

Harmony's Davidoff Hit is Champion at PVDA Ride for Life.

What a memorable and successful weekend we shared at the 2009 PVDA Ride For Life dressage competition held over the weekend of June 27-28. The competition itself was beautifully hosted once again by the Potomac Valley Dressage Association, whose efforts to produce a meaningful program not only focused on the beauty of horses in sport but also on the meaningful effort to raise impressive funds to fight Breast Cancer.

sara hasslerSara Hassler, our 13 year old, made her proud debut down centerline aboard a dear friend’s horse Playing For Keeps (Keeper). With a smile beaming, Sara rode with confidence and produced wonderful results for her first competition. Given that Saturday night’s Gala event is dedicated to her grandmother Jill Hassler-Scoop, who we lost to breast cancer nearly 3 years ago, this was a very special competition for Sara to make her debut. She made us all proud and honored her grandmother’s legacy with her happy, confident performances.susanne

Harmony’s Davidoff Hit produced top results all weekend, finishing as Third Level Champion and earning High Score of the show. He and Susanne have kicked it up a notch or two and are excited about their late summer/fall campaign.
nicolle
River Willow and our working student River Willow made a successful debut at Third Level. We were very proud of this pair as they danced their way through Third Level tests 1-3 and qualified for BLM’s!

Chiros and Lisa Rankin, our long-time friend and summer employee, made her debut at her first recognized dressage show! Being an experienced eventer with a solid Pony Club background, this weekend’s competition was the realization of a goal for Lisa to improve her dressage. She did her partner Chiros proud, as well as all of us at Hassler Dressage, and finished with excellent results.

Several of Scott’s students were also at the competition, making it a fun mix of friends and colleagues. Courtney Kind-Dye came down to perform and compete in the Jill Hassler Scoop Memorial Dancing Horse Challenge. She finished 2nd with her marvelous andalusian stallion Grandioso while Belinda Nairn won the Challenge on the impressive stallion Florianus. Florianus was raised and developed by dear friends Ingo and Susan Pape so we were very pleased to see the pair shine!

Lingh Re-United with Edward Gal at Swedish Stallion Show.

Friday the 13th of March proved to be a fantastic night at Flyinge. In the cold spring weather, making his entrance through candlelight, the famous dressage stallion Lingh entered the main arena at Flyinge, once again reunited with his former rider Edward Gal. For Edward, the moment was filled with emotion. After all, it was Lingh who made a name for him as a top dressage rider. Edward’s team also showed much emotion watching the pair’s performance.lingh
The pair made the Grand Prix movements look easy and Lingh’s quality for dressage shown through, especially in his changes, piaffe, and passage. The pirouettes were spot-on! (watch video)

For this magical evening, the Flyinge staff dressed in traditional 19th century apparel, which gave the stallion show the extra element of a theatrical performance. A full hall of spectators enjoyed watching what Flyinge has to offer for the breeding season of 2009. The CEO of Flyinge, Johan Bredberg and the breeding director Karl Henrik-Heimdahl, both addressed Lingh in their speeches and showed their gratitude for Lingh’s presence at Flyinge.Lingh’s owner, Karin Reid Offield, was also very happy to see that her decision to place Lingh in Sweden with Flyinge has proved to be very successful. Lingh is in fantastic condition and is enjoying his Swedish life.

Son of Lingh Named Reserve Champion Dressage Stallion at 2009 Den Bosch.

At the 2009 KWPN Stallion Licensing in Den Bosch, a strikingly handsome young stallion named Beau (Lingh-Ferro) was named Reserve Champion Dressage Stallion. Out of nearly a thousand prospects presented at the start of the selection process, Beau was one of only 26 dressage stallions newly selected by the KWPN Stallion Selection Committee to attend the 2009 Stallion Performance Test at Ermelo, which takes place this spring. beauBred by Ferro's owner Jan Lamars and the late Adrienne van de Goor, Beau bears the blood of two internationally celebrated Dutch Grand Prix stallions. Later on Saturday, February 7, Beau was the top-selling dressage prospect in the KWPN Select Sale, selling for 195,000 € with the additional licensing fee of 50K, making his overall price 245,000 €! (A video can be viewed on the KWPN site here.) We have learned that it was Beau's owner who purchased the stallion through the Select Sale in the hopes that they could do better through a private sale. We have high hopes for this stallion and look forward to sharing more about him

On March 14th, Lingh will be presented by Edward Gal in a special performance at the Stallion Show at the National Stud of Sweden, Flyinge, where Lingh is stationed for the upcoming breeding season. The re-appearance of this internationally celebrated team will certainly ensure a sensational debut for Lingh before his Scandinavian audience!
