Weekend Training with Steffen Peters August 13-14, 2011 Back by Popular Demand!
Please join us for a very special event: Hassler Dressage welcomes to Riveredge multiple-time Olympian and 2009 USEF Equestrian of the Year, Steffen Peters for an exciting 2-day clinic. Training with Steffen Peters will be held August 13 and 14 and is open to auditors.
Growing up in Germany, Peters started riding at seven years old when his parents bought both he and his sister a pony. His extraordinary talent and feel was evident early on. When Peters was 16 his father bought him his first horse, Udon. Together they formed a special partnership and would eventually go on to win the bronze medal in Atlanta. Also with Udon, Peters came close to an individual bronze medal at the 2006 Worlds. While training with Jo Hinnemann in Voerde, Germany, he met the San Diego, California based American trainer Laurie Falvo. Falvo invited the young rider to work at her barn in San Diego for the summer of 1984. The following year, Peters relocated permanently to the San Diego area , bringing Udon with him. Peters' talent and ability as a horseman was quickly realized, and he soon became much in demand as a trainer. Numerous successes followed quickly, together with Udon and with many other talented horses, including Florianus and most recently Ravel. Peters became a U.S. citizen in 1992. Four years later he was named to the 1996 Olympic team, saying it was an honor to be able to compete for the U.S: "The whole I idea of feeling so close to one's country makes a difference. There are not too many other countries where the people are so patriotic. I really enjoy this about America." In California, Peters met his wife, Shannon, who is a talented Grand Prix rider in her own right. Together, they work and live in the San Diego area. In 2008, Peters made a powerful statement for United States' dressage when at the Beijing Summer Olympics he and Ravel pressed the top German and Dutch riders hard for their medals. Nearly capturing the bronze, Peters and Ravel finished 4th individually at the Olympics and came into 2009 with guns blazing. Steffen and Ravel convincingly won the 2009 World Cup in Las Vegas and later dominated the competition at the famous international competition Aachen. At the 2010 World Equestrian Games, Peters was the first American ever to win an individual medal taking home the bronze for the Grand Prix, the Special, and the KUR atop Ravel. At the 2011 World Dressage Masters, Steffen scored a record 84.5% in the Grand Prix Kur to Music Steffen Peters is one of the most in-demand trainers and clinicians world-wide. He is known for his correct, sympathetic approach, as well as his superb riding skills. A major component of his training style includes developing the dressage horse with light yet effective aids—impeccable standards which produce one champion after another. His horses are harmonious, supple, and relaxed, and have enjoyed solid, sound competition careers well into their senior years. Hassler Dressage is proud to invite you to be a part of this fabulous event. Be sure to register by August 8th to enjoy a delicious catered lunch. Of course, we'll have plenty of seats available for walk-ins as well, so please join us either way—just be sure to bring your own sack lunch if you cannot pre-register.
